Why Beeswax Candles?
Beeswax has been used to make beautiful, functional and decorative candles since ancient times. While being used as a primary source of light, beeswax candles are ideal for burning in enclosed or unventilated spaces due to their lack of toxicity and the beautiful and natural honey scent they emit.
In addition to being a completely natural, ecological and ethically responsible fuel beeswax candles have a unique light signature, burning bright with a golden flame and beautiful halo. With proper burn practices beeswax candles produce low to no smoke and soot and of course, freshen your environment with their amazing gentle and natural scent.
Most candles today are made of paraffin wax which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned (both are known carcinogens). In fact, the toxins released from paraffin candles are the same as those found in diesel fuel fumes and are linked to asthma and lung cancer.
Paraffin and paraffin blended candles have no place in your home! It is amazing to us that so many are not aware of the toxins released when burning paraffin candles so we try to educate customers on this fact.
Alternative waxes have also been used in an effort to increase profit by reducing material costs, and marketed as ecologically friendly (not so). Candle manufacturers looked at waxes such as soy, palm and flax-seed oil, often blending them with paraffin in hopes of getting the same burn performance of beeswax or paraffin with the price benefits of the other, cheaper waxes.
Contrary to popular belief, soy wax candles can emit chemicals into the air as well. Over 90% of soybean crops in North America are genetically modified and are grown using pesticides. Some soy wax manufacturers process their soybean oil to filter out any genetically modified material as well as any "potentially present herbicides or pesticides" (source: www.ecosoyabrands.com). Sadly not all soy wax manufacturers do this which means a good portion of soy wax candles have the potential to emit chemicals into the air from herbicides and pesticides and again, many "alternative" waxes are actually blends that contain paraffin simply because it burns better than those other non-beeswax waxes.
Beeswax is truly the only sensible choice for beautiful, ecologically sound, ethical and healthy candle burning!
