How to Burn Beeswax Candles
We want you to get the best value and longest burn out of our pure beeswax candles so we recommend that you follow these best practices when burning candles.
Burning Durations for Best Results
Selecting the correct width of candle for your preferred burning habits and burning your candle for a specific length of time (based on the size of the candle) is paramount to ensure you get the best performance out of your candle.
We make our beeswax candles to not only to offer a variety of sizes and styles for decorative enjoyment, but to allow our customers to burn their candles for a duration that suits their burning habits while providing great economic value.
This means that certain candle diameters have minimum single burn times, in order to ensure the longest burn times for your beeswax candles.
See the appropriate minimum burn times for your candle diameter.
Maintaining Wick length
Always ensure that you trim the wick (when cooled) to 3/16" or 5mm before lighting or relighting your candle. Although every wick we offer is self-burning, keeping your wick trimmed on any of our candles will ensure a clean, even burn as well as managing the flame height which will in turn manage the width of the wax pool.
"Hugging" our beeswax candles
We love hugs! But seriously, hugging a candle simply means pushing the softened walls of the candle in towards the centre (into the pool of wax). This raises the level of the wax pool, thus shortening the height of wick and adding longevity to your burn before needing to trim the wick. Hugging beeswax candles also widens the edge of the candle walls. This ensures that the pool of liquid beeswax will not flow over the edge or leak out any of the crevices in the sculpted walls of the candle.
Always used two hands to hug the candle (on a candle that has been burning for some time and which walls are already softened). Gently push in with both thumbs using equal pressure on both sides. Fold the edges in gradually so you do not swamp the flame with the pool of liquid beeswax, and so you don't push your fingers through into the hot wax.
Safely Extinguishing Beeswax Candles
Before your extinguish your candle, make sure that you hug it per the instructions above.
Do not blow on the wick to extinguish it! The liquid wax could be picked up and sprayed on whatever is on the other side of the candle.
There are two ways to properly extinguish our candles;
1. Use a snuffer to carefully extinguish the flame.
2. Use a toothpick, pencil or other long-ish item that you do not mind getting a little wax on. Use it to push the wick down into the liquid pool of beeswax. Once the flame is out, stand the wick up out of the pool so that it does not get sealed in the cooling wax pool.
Never burn Beeswax Candles alongside non-beeswax candles
If you burn a non-beeswax (paraffin) candle while burning a beeswax candle, the beeswax candle will attempt to clean the air by binding to the soot and toxins in the air and subsequently depositing that material on walls, tables and around your house!
So many people are not aware of the toxicity of paraffin and other types of waxes. We can't stress enough how dangerous paraffin candles are to your health, the health of your children, family members and pets.
Beeswax candles are the ideal choice for those who love the glow of flame and the romance and aesthetic of candles.
